It is excellent. KJ is honest about her family's struggles and successes, and transparent about the process that got them there. Her advice is based on research and reality, and her suggestions felt very feasible for busy working parents.Finally, KJ is an excellent writer (no surprise here; she's the former editor and lead writer of the NYTimes Motherlode blog), and this book is super fun and easy to read.I will be recommending this book to all of the parents I work with!

The tone of this book is so much more likable than many parenting books. KJ managed to offer practical advise without making me feel anxious. There were a number of times that I laughed out loud as she described a situation in her own family that is similar to something we have encountered, normalizing the chaos and craziness that comes with family life, especially raising children that are both biological and adopted. It made me feel less alone in the parenting journey. I'm going to give the book to my husband to read. One of my favorite nuggets of wisdom was the idea that you (the parent) can be happy even when your chid is having a hard time. Such a welcome and liberating thought. Well done, KJ!

She mixes research, tips, and often funny family anecdotes. This mama of 4 has been there in the trenches. She strives for happiness, not Pinterest perfection. I found her advice on chores, holidays, and homework the most helpful for me. This book would be a fabulous gift for any parent or parent to be. I highly recommend it.

With my son starting back up with soccer this week, I dove straight for the sports section as soon as the book arrived, and I'm so glad I did. I learned that I was doing certain things I thought were "helpful" but were probably actually making him silently miserable. KJ breaks down the top parenting frustration points in such a helpful, down-to-earth and non-judgmental way. And it's written in easily digestible chunks so you can pick it up for a few minutes here or there and learn a little something new. Highly recommend!

I LOVE this book and keep it by my bed table. KJs clear, concise writing make her her insights about parenting in the real 21st century world of iPhones and Snapchat viable. She gives plan courses of action in parenting challenges, and perhaps, most importantly she suggests when to stand down, and let some things go. And that I needed to here! The chapters flow easy, but you'll want to hang out. KJ is the Mom friend you always track down after drop-off to bounce off parenting strategies. Just way funnier and deep, and available after midnight.

I don't know who read this for the audible download but it's almost unbearable to listen to. The book is good but the person who reads it pretty much ruins it. I'd recommend just buying the book and skipping the audible download.

This book mostly has clearly written proofs and easy-to-follow explanations for students who have some experience in proofs or basic analysis. In my opinion, it is definitely not a book for someone who has only seen calculus.However, I have three very large problems with this book.The first, and most important, is that the book is not self contained. In many theorems in Chapter 1, the reader is asked to see Baby Rudin for the proof. While it's pretty easy to find a PDF of Baby Rudin online for free, this is still not ideal. First, because Rudin and this book use different terminology/symbols for the same concepts, so there is a bit of unnecessary complexity in figuring how out Rudin's proof fits into this book's theorem. For example, the proof of Theorem 1.21 in this book is left to the proof of Rudin's Theorem 2.41. However, Rudin relies on the concept of k-cells, which this book never speaks of. Second, and most importantly, Rudin's proofs rely on concepts that this book has not defined. For example, Theorem 1.28 in this book relies on the proof of Theorem 2.36 in Baby Rudin. However, the proof in Baby Rudin relies on the concept of an "open cover," which this book does not define until a couple theorems later!The second complaint I have about this book is that sometimes the proofs are sloppy. For example, at the beginning of section 1.2.8, the author states that unbounded sets must be compact and states that an unbounded sequence cannot contain a convergent subsequence. Instead of explaining why, though, he simply puts "(why?)" in the text. While this might be great for a student who is following this book in a class or with an instructor, this is incredibly frustrating for someone who is studying on their own.Finally, as far as I can tell, this book is missing any discussion of the Bolzano Weierstrass Theorem, which is an important result in economics.Update: The definition of a determinant is wrong in this book. It states you should take the negative of even permutations when it should be of odd permutations.

If you're a graduate student in economics, or perhaps computer science, buy this book as soon as possible. It will make your life much, much easier. Lagrangeans and Kuhn-Tucker optimization are the bread and butter of microeconomics, and yet few professors will bother to go into them in detail. This book succeeds in making these abstract mathematical procedures feel tangible and intuitive, defining them rigorously, explaining their usefulness and providing examples. This is one of very few books that I keep on my shelf for reference.For a broader (and equally necessary) introduction to the math that you'll need for advanced study in economics, I recommend Simon and Blume's Mathematics for Economists.

One of the probes that I have found with Kindle format is the size of the equations. The equations are to small to be readable. The equations size does not increase in size as text size increases.

I am a student at Penn econ. The book fits the requirement of the department very well. It is a nice treatment of the topic, both on the theoretical and applied sides. However, there're a considerable amount of typos in it. For instance, the statement of the Lagrange's Theorem takes the function g(i) to R(k), which should be R(1), etc.. So be careful. Mine is 15th printing version, but no revisions so far.. I think the press has earned enough from the book and should consider a second edition, right? haha..

glaring mistakes all over the book.i've found at least 3 wrong definition of convexity in the book. some contradicing within a paragraph. wow do some proof reading?along with wrong definition for implicit function theorem in chapter 1 - missing minus sign in front.and look at page where they talk about epigraph and subgraph. and ... you get the point.i can't believe it has such basic definitions wrong.not to mention uncommon notations used for some analysis...not happy with the book.for optimization stick with Stephen Boyd, Bertsekas, or Luenberger.and for applying optimization tech to economics get simon, and blume2 stars might not seem a big deal to you but look at my rating history.i rarely go under 4 stars.stay away from this book. although if the author fixes those deluge of stupid mathematical mistakes this book has a potential to be 5 stars.

If you are studying Economics or Applied Mathematics, especially in Operations and Information Management, this book is an great overview of what you should master in order to engage interesting problems.

Good coverage of main ideas, and does a good job using specific examples to illustrate the concepts. I wish it was more aware of public choice - it often assumes perfection from politicians and bureaucrats, which is the same as assuming they're not human and does a disservice to the topic.It is a big book, and it isn't formatted as well as some texts are, so readability could be better. Graphs and charts are well used, though - not overused and generally not put on separate pages from the corresponding text, so you can refer from the words to the chart without turning the page.

The product had some minor shipping problems but it was not due to the sending but instead because of UPS. The quality was great and had very minor wear and tear. Overall, the book does a phenomenal job at explaining the economics of regulation in the many different sectors throughout time. Would recommend.

The book is very dense in the theme of econômica regulation, altough I think it should cover market failure and the neoclassical point of view in a more advanced approach.

I need this book for my Masters and it's impossible to follow if you don't put page numbers! amazon needs to do this ASAP.

My daughter is 3 and just went to her first gymnastics class last week. It was pretty obvious it was her first class. Neither of us had any idea of what to expect and she was all over the place. I came home and ordered this book and a DVD right away, in hopes that she can be a little more ready for her next class. This is very basic. It is not a book to teach gymnastics. It is a learning to read book that simply follows a little girl through her first day in class. That is fine for us. For $3.99 that is pretty much all that I was expecting. My daughter sat on my lap as I read it to her and explained what was going on and how she would be doing those same things at her next class: wearing a leotard, warming up, rolling, using the balance beam, waiting her turn in line, listening to the coach, etc.The book is only 32 pages long and very thin with big print. The pictures capture a child's interest and the text is just the right length to hold a preschooler's attention.

The photos are great and relate so well to my 5-year old great granddaughter. The text and photos are so illustrative and simple. Great set of books for a little wanna-be gymnast.

So this is a DK beginning to read (1). It has a lot of words on the pages (4-6) sentences and many of the beginnig readers will have a hard time figuring out the words. Ready to read level one also has a lot of words per page and can overwhelm a beginning reader. I can read level 1 also is for more advanced kinder kids. There is a ready to read pre-level one and this is the perfect begining reader along with Step into Reading level 1 and Scholastic Reader level 1. Hope this helps.

Perfect gift

I bought this for my gymnastics-obsessed 4 year old, and it's been a big hit. It has been read at least once a night, every night, since it arrived two weeks ago. She can now read it by herself - but would much rather have me read it, so she can fling herself around the bedroom, copying all the moves in the book! She loves reading all the "boxed" words by herself, and recognising them in the text.A definite favourite. Pity there aren't more in the same reader level series about gymnastics!

I ordered this for my Grand Daughter age 5.

This is for my 4 yr. old grandson, starting gymnastics, he is really thrilled with the pictures in this book. He does not read yet but enoys the book. His mom tells me it is a great true to life book.I would purchase again.

Preschool level that is for girls who want to start gymnastics.

Great recipe book from a renowned southwestern food master chef. Beautiful pictures, well written. For me the sauce recipes are amazing, I use these more than the taco recipes.

I recently have gotten really into making tacos and was looking for a cookbook that focused just on taco recipes. For the records, I am an experienced home cook and am the kind of person is super excited to order dried ancho chilies from Penzeys or spend half an hour char grilling poblanos. I've made three recipes so far (pinto beans, rajas, and braised ribs) all with rave reviews. I agree these recipes do take more time (probably wouldn't make them on a weeknight), but are worth the effort.

I have been a big fan of Mark Miller for years. I have several of his other cookbooks and have eaten at Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe more that once. When I decided to add his Tacos Cookbook to my collection I was really looking forward to some great, Mexican and New Mexican recipes. For the most part I have been very pleased with it.I love to cook and prep time can be like therapy, however, there has to be a pay-off that is equal to the time spent preparing it and the expense of the ingredients. It may surprise some people but authentic Mexican food is very complex, has a lot of different ingredients, and requires a lot of prep and marinating time. Even while keeping that in mind, I found some the recipes in this book to be overly complex for what they turned out to be. First I will cover some of my favorite dishes in the book:* Tacos Al Pastor - Even though the recipe called for 80 assorted, rehydrated chiles and 16 other ingredients, the resulting taco was very satisfying and authentic.* Chicken with Chorizo - This was a great recipe that will become a favorite in my house. The spicy chorizo blended well with the marinated chicken.* Lobster and Avocado - Although this is a fairly expensive dish to make, my friends and I loved the delicate combinations of lobster, mangoes and avocado (although I felt that the fresh truffle garnish was a case of gilding the lily.)* Huevos Divorciados - I have eaten this in many a south Texan and New Mexican restaurant and was glad to finally have a recipe for making it at home. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed ALL of the breakfast recipes in this book.Now, a few that I wasn't crazy about:* Ceviche with Coconut and Ginger - Although I love cerviche, the textures just didn't work for me as a taco filling. Given the cost of fresh red snapper I would have rather had this dish by itself, without the tortilla.* Cumin Scented Lamb Loin - I was really looking forward to this one, and it did taste great. However, I found a problem with the recipe. Mark Miller starts this one off by telling about the time that he spent in Morocco and the importance of cumin (which he says has a "spicy, pungent, woodsy aroma which gives meat a "gamier" or "meatier" flavor) in that country's cuisine. He goes on to mention it's importance in Tex-Mex cooking. The only problem was that, out of the 14 ingredients for the brine which is used as a marinade for the lamb, there is NO cumin. Not even a spice blend that contains some cumin. This has to be a mistake, one which I would not expect in a book like this. After making it the first time I recreated it using a Moroccan spice blend (Ras El Hanout) and chili paste (Harissa) instead of 6 other ingredients and I cut the prep time in half (and I have to admit that my friends even thought that mine was better.)The photography, by Califonia's Ed Anderson, is some of the best that I have seen in quite a while. I have grown so weary of seeing photographers overuse the "very-shallow-depth-of-field" technique. Having been trained in the use of large-format view cameras I appreciate a photographer who understands all of the different methods of manipulating the range of focus. The photographs here are not only technically correct but also beautifully designed. Good food photography is expensive and I love that this book is packed with enticing, delicious looking pictures. I will be looking for some of Mr. Anderson's other work and I will put him on my short-list of favorite food photographers.All in all I enjoyed this cookbook and will be using it often, although some of the recipes seem more appropriate for a high-end, South-West restaurant than for most homes. I will reserve the fancier ones for entertaining.

This is a great book with fabulous recipes! The recipes are easy to follow. There are excellent photographs of the finished dishes. Techniques are explained clearly for better results. You can't lose with this book.

While I have only tried a couple recipes from this cookbook so far, they have been extraordinary. It's just the kind of food I like: full of flavor instead of salt. Not sure why some people think the recipes are complicated. Peppers are available at most grocery stores these days. If you want boring, basic Mexican food, this is not the book for you. Highly recommended.

An interesting book if somewhat superficial in that it doesn't go into much detail about the life of Elsa Schiaparelli but that may not be a fault of the book. I was expecting more - but the book is attractively designed and presented and is very readable! I'd recommend it to someone who is curious but unfamiliar with the subject but it's clearly not for purposes of research; however, it doesn't pretend to be.

Great book! Great shape.

A grounded look at the security issues that already plague the Internet of Things and will challenge widespread adoption. The author is an excellent teacher. I opened this book out of a sense of obligation. I advise companies on pricing and monetization of the Industrial Internet of Things and security is a relevant economic value driver and thus a value metric. I left the book intellectually stimulated, eager to read more by this author, and deeply worried.Smith grounds his work in an understanding of historical security issues and anti-patterns (Chapter 4 on Overcoming Design Patterns for Insecurity is worth committing to memory). He gives many examples, some well known other probably only followed by security experts. The treatment of the Volkswagen scandal where the emissions controls were intentionally designed to trick regulators brings an interesting perspective. The final chapter that references Ogden and Richard's seminal work on semiology was eye opening. Understanding the interacting roles of users' mental models, the system model and the real world and how mappings lead to security issues was thought provoking.Two points really stuck with me. The lifespan of physical objects is much longer than that of most software. The methods (only partially successful) that we have developed for security on the Internet of Computers, are not likely to scale across time. There is a real risk of having large numbers of legacy devices with compromised security. The surface for attack in the Internet of Things is orders of magnitude larger than in the Internet of Computers.There are many more insertion points and types of insertion points. Our current approaches will not scale over space either.This book should be read well beyond security geeks, or even IoT implementers. There are insights and models here that are widely applicable.

After reading Bringing Down the House, I was excited and fascinated by the luxury life in Las Vegas and the world of card counting. This is a story that's told through the eyes of the author about a group of math geniuses, who used the techniques of card counting. They worked as teams and legally won millions of dollars over just a few years by spending their weekends down in Vegas. The author, Ben Mezrich, wrote the book based a real life story that is almost too incredible to believe. Therefore, even though It's a real story, It’s written like a realistic fiction novel. All the events that happened in the whole story were so intense that I felt like I was thrust into a roller coaster ride. Moreover, Mezrich visualized most of his sentences and sometimes made it melodramatic. He used lots of visual metaphors and descriptions of characters’ inside thoughts. Overall, this is a thrilling book that can be finished in a short amount of time but the scenes in the book might last forever in your head.From the book, I've learnt a lot about the world of casinos and card counting, the job of the spotters, who cover as many tables as possible and keep running card-counts at their location and help the big player to count cards and the usage of hand signals. For example, a spotter would signal the count of +11 by saying “I wonder if there is a football game today.” (in reference of there are eleven players on a football team). Or he might say “I really suck at bowling” to indicate the count of +10 because in bowling, strike is ten pins. There are also lot’s of other techniques that the team invented. They had their own system. They also learned about the dark side of the casino world, how greedy people are and how the Vegas corporations works. Furthermore, Mezrich always leaves suspense to the readers and stimulate readers’ desire to read more about the story. At the end of all the chapters, you won’t know what’s coming up next. Mezrich is capable of keeping the readers’ eyes glues to the pages. In the book, the MIT team strapped thousands of dollars to their bodies to get the cash onto planes. They used false names, always have limos waiting for them at the airports, always having personal host to escort them everywhere. Reading about their incredibly rich life and their dangerous situation of being caught by the casinos, you will never know what they are going to do next.Even though the book is a quick read, it interests a wide variety of people, from who wants to feel the thrills and adventure the gambling world to the ones that never gambled before but curious about it. However, the book doesn't related to any big history themes. From the book, it seems like over the course of a few years, gambling is all they do. I couldn't tell how was it like in the 1990s except for the casinos. The author also has too much detail about the card counting techniques and it got repetitive to create the tension between characters and a card counter’s life. It seems like readers can just skim through some parts that is obviously meant to stretch out the book.Moreover, there are lots of details in the book doesn't seem real. Some of the events doesn't make any sense. For example, why would they hide their cash in all kinds of ways and trying to get through the airport security when they can just use a bank box or a debit card. Moreover, the team always stays at fancy hotels with suites, champagne, limos waiting on arrival, 24-hour open swimming pool just for them. Doesn't it seems too conspicuous to the casinos? Since they wants to keep it low, they shouldn't take risks like that. Also, according to Wikipedia, some of the exciting events didn't not occur. All these over dramatic scenes seems too unrealistic. However, they can really interest the readers. After all, this is one of the cheapest Vegas fantasy people can buy.Overall, this book contains interesting and exciting stories that keep the readers eyes on the pages. The plot goes quick enough that you won’t find it long or boring. Yet, it’s not the best book to read if you are looking for a historically informative book.

I'm a huge math geek myself, so I really wanted to read this story and learn how these guys did what they did. The story definitely held my attention from start to finish, but it wasn't emotionally gripping. It's written with a fair amount of flowery language (more than necessary, I'd say), but lacks a human element. I never felt like I *knew* any of the characters or really cared about them, but from a purely informational standpoint, yes, it's all there: what they did, how they did it, how and when it all happened. Personally, I think the author could have done a lot more with it, and really brought the reader into the story, let him *feel* the tension, the nerves, the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat, but if you just want to know the facts and events of what happened, this book will work for you.

Entertaining read, but right off the bat it reads like a work of “non”non-fiction. The author takes a lot of liberty with describing scenes vividly when he was never present to witness them. Some authors will judiciously generate a quick scene to get a point across (e.g. Michael Lewis - “The Big Short”), but this book at large stretches reads like a complete work of fiction. The subject was really cool, and the fact that it really did happen makes for a fun read. However, it’s better characterized as historical fiction than non-fiction; google it.

I bought this for my five year old granddaughter to read to her new baby brother. It is just adorable and sweet with a very gentle story appropriate for young children. The religious part is actually very subtle only mentioning saying bedtime prayers and then ending with God Bless You Goodnight at the very end. That was an important factor because I wanted to encourage the granddaughters belief in God without stepping on the toes of her mother who is not a believer yet. Highly recommended for very young children or older children to read to younger siblings.

This is a fabulous book! I bought it, and several others, for our newest grandbaby, and this is by far the nicest of the group. It has a thickly padded cover, very sturdy pages, absolutely beautiful illustrations, and lovely rhymes on every page. I purchased this on a whim, not knowing how truly great it is, and I am so glad that I did! Because this will be with the new baby, I will probably purchase another to keep at my house! Terrific book!

This book is adorable, I was very happy with it. I can see why it's so highly rated, it's just a sweet little book that you can read at bedtime to your babies. The outer covers are soft and puffy which is comfortable for little hands; and its pages are hard too which will last longer than paper. It has nine flip pages.

Short book just right for my granddaughter. She is only 6 months old. So short attention span. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a gift, but we had to read it first. Made us cry. Then Momma said the first time she read it to our grandson, that she, too, cried. It's not sad... but very touching. Loved it!

This book is a treasure and should be treated as such !The only issue is, it was packed unprotected and right under the tape, when opening the box,(which had no warning) the back of the book sustained a scratch ☹ , how can I gift this now?

I was given this book as a gift for my little girl. It's turned out to be her favorite book at 8months. I've since bought it for upcoming baby shower gifts instead of giving a card. Beautiful and sweet book.

This story is adorable with cute rhymes and pictures. Just the right length for my 2 and a half year old. So glad I ordered this!
