Very nice hardcover book with great pictures. I have many reference books on all phases of plant propagation and this is one of my favorites. Broken down into vegetables, perennials, cacti, bulbs, trees, etc. with practical methods for reproducing. Another section for plants in alphabetical order with details. Shows different techniques and ease of using. A joy to look through!
This is an excellent book. If you have any interest in learning more about plant propagation this is the book for you. It covers broad concepts but it also provides detailed information on how to propagate certain species. The index makes it also easy to reference a specific plant. I have always been a bit unclear on grafting but this book did an excellent job providing a clear and understandable depiction on what grafting is and how to do it.
I like to propagate plants I see in friends gardens. I can take a cutting from most plants and root them successfully, except for some. This book has every plant I've heard of and many, many more that I've never heard of. I heart would break when I would check on a cutting I had taken would be in it's womb, hanging it's head down and turning brown. Since I got this book, I've learned the error of my ways and my cuttings aren't dropping anymore.
I ordered this to use on my small farm for tree, bush and general plant propagation. It is undoubtedly a wealth of informaiton for home horticulturalist but it had only a small section in back about trees and bushes. Everything else was about flowers. It is a beautiful book. I returned to the seller.
There is an amazing amount of information packed into this book. It is very species/cultivar specific, and so makes for a better reference book than a general introduction to the topic. I would hazard to guess that this amazing thoroughness is the reason that this tome ranks #1 in "Propagation & Cultivation Gardening."
This book was on the suggested reading list for my Horticulture class on Plant Propagation. It is richly illustrated and full of photographs. The sections are broken down into trees, shrubs, perennials, seeds, etc. I found some Bauhinia seeds on the sidewalk in my neighborhood and saw that I can plant them and grow an Orchid Tree! It will take many years, but I can do it! The instructions do not seem difficult to follow, and I consider myself an intermediate level gardener. Unfortunately I have a very small yard, so can't plant as many things as I'd like, but this book is definitely going to stay in my ready reference materials to which I'll turn again and again. Highly recommended for anyone from beginner to Master Gardener.
I am a book hoard. I am often disappointed in many books due to lack of content and disorganized information. I LOVE this book. It is complete, well organized and covers SO MUCH information on how to prorogation hundreds of plants. The photography is beautiful and the quality of thick glossy paper is a true delight. The best part is the price. There are other books out there that charge twice as much. Buy this book first. It satisfies both the beginner and the advanced horticultural experts.
Great book and just chock full of every method of propogation...ones I never even knew were possible! This will become a weekly read as I am starting an organic farm. It will be invaluable for saving money. Great photos and explanations!
Take any plant and grow it. That includes wild plants, trees, shrubs, fruit trees, vines, etc. Even many obscure plants are included in this book. Very thorough. Especially useful for the herbal gardener and anyone who wishes to propagate wild or cultivated fruit trees and shrubs.
