Ok, I wept reading this book. I lost my pet and Grandma (my two best friends and life jackets) within two weeks, with no warning signs. This was in 2012, and every once in a while I cry. This is a beautiful, short book filled with a great talk between father and son. I highly recommend this book to everyone who had a loss. This book is for anyone grieving a loss; not just a pet but anyone who misses a loved one. The story is age appropriate for ALL. We didn't have books on children and loss when I was growing up. I sure am exhilarated to have this book now to read to my future grandchildren. Thank you, Judy!
I found this to be quite inspiring and comforting after having read this neat ebook. As I have also lost quite a number of special loved ones over the years in my lifetime. I recommend this this ebook especially for young children but I feel that anyone who may be really deep in sorrow over a loved one's death could be helped, comforted,etc. This is why I am giving this ebook five stars. A well written and compassionate explanation for the children that experience the death of a pet. Rosie, a dog, had an accident and the Vet was unable to save her. The father explains death to the boy and he learns how to accept the death. I found it to be an outstanding story in that the boy planted a tree in Rosie's memory. Also, he takes time to grieve before he gets another pet.Also, although it is not part of the story, I really loved the explanation of the artichoke which is the author's symbol.Most highly recommended.
Perfect for helping children understand and find hope in the death of a pet. I wish I'd had it as a kid when my beloved dog died and to help my son when his cat died. Although the title has the word "Heaven," this book is non-specific as to religion and therefore equally helpful to children of all faiths. The facial expressions in the illustrations mirror the emotions to a tee and go a long way toward making a grieving child feel understood.
As a pet lover, I found this an invaluable book to share with children who may be wondering what happens to their beloved pets after they die. Written in the form of a story with wonderful illustrations, many children will easily be able to relate to young child who loses Rosie, a beloved pet. Lots of great tips, caring, and insight make this a wonderful book to share.
This is a great book. I remember how traumatizing the loss of a beloved pet can be when you are very young. I think this book allows the parents to have a good conversation with their kids around this time of loss. It's a great conversation starter and helpful for the kids to understand their feelings during this time. I highly recommend parents to read this to their kids if they have a pet.
As a parent of a small child, I found this book to be a great resource for when the time comes that I will have to explain to my little boy about the passing of any of our family's pets. It has cute illustrations and the captions are quite appropriate.Keep on writing, Ms. Wright! I'm loving this parenting series!
